Choosing the right screen
What's the difference between ForceField, Protec and Diamond Grille?
All three are Prowler Proof security screens with welded frames, and all three keep insects out. The difference is the infill.
ForceField is 316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh: the clearest view and the pick for homes near the water. Protec is a perforated aluminium sheet: more daytime privacy and a mid-range price. Diamond Grille is the traditional welded grille with fibreglass insect mesh behind it, and the most affordable.
How is Prowler Proof different from other security screen brands?
The biggest difference is how the screens are put together. Prowler Proof frames are welded, so the corners are seamless and there are no screws or rivets to loosen over time. Many other screens are screwed, riveted or clamped together.
ForceField's mesh is 316 marine-grade stainless steel, the grade chosen for salty, humid air. Not every stainless steel mesh on the market is 316. Prowler Proof products are tested to the Australian Standards, audited through the National Security Screen Association, and backed by a 10-year full replacement warranty.

Which security screen is best for coastal and canal homes?
Usually ForceField, because its 316 stainless steel mesh is made for salty air. Rinse it with fresh water every month or two and it will keep looking good. Our guide to screens for coastal homes has the detail.
Do security screens keep insects out?
Yes. ForceField and Protec work as a security screen and a flyscreen in one, so you don't need a separate flyscreen. Diamond Grille comes with fibreglass insect mesh behind the grille.
Will security screens spoil my view?
Not with ForceField. Its woven stainless steel mesh is almost invisible from a distance, which is why it's the usual choice for front doors, pools and water views. Protec gives a slightly filtered view with more daytime privacy.
Can I use different screens on the same house?
Yes, and it's common. Protec on the street side for privacy and ForceField at the back for the view is a popular mix. We match the frame colours so everything still looks like a set. See ForceField vs Protec.
Security, locks and standards
What's the difference between a security door and a screen door?
A flyscreen or barrier door keeps insects or pets in check but isn't built to stop someone getting in. A security door is a complete system, with frame, infill, lock and installation, built and tested to the Australian Standards for security screens.
What does AS 5039 mean?
AS 5039 is the Australian Standard for security screen doors and window grilles. Products are tested against things like impact, knife cutting, levering and pulling the infill out of the frame. Read what makes a security screen compliant.
What locks come with your security doors?
Every security door we fit has a Lockwood 3-point locking system as standard: the 8654 on hinged doors and the 8653 on sliding doors. Doors ordered together can be keyed alike, so one key opens them all.
Are you members of the National Security Screen Association?
Yes. Viking is an NSSA member, and the Prowler Proof products we install are audited through the NSSA.
What warranty do I get?
Prowler Proof products carry a 10-year full replacement warranty against defects in workmanship or materials.
Do you have screens that stop children falling from upstairs windows?
Yes. Guardian is Prowler Proof's fall prevention screen for upper-floor windows. It lets you open the window fully while the screen acts as the barrier.

How much do security screens cost?
Every screen is made to measure, so the price depends on the product, the size and number of openings, and whether it's a door or a window. Is the measure and quote really free?
Yes. Chris measures every opening, talks you through the options and emails your quote the same day. There's no call-out fee anywhere in our service area.
Do I need a screen on every window?
No. Fixed glass that doesn't open doesn't need a screen. We only quote the windows and doors that open.
Which areas do you service?
